Session Logs

Session 0
  • Character Creation
    • Free feat - no variant humans
    • No homebrew, check with me for Unearthed Arcana
    • Multiclass only for role-playing or background reasons
    • Level 2
    • Roll for health - everyone rerolls 1's, d10's and d12's also reroll 2's
    • I would suggest making them well-rounded. There will be combat, but also a fair amount of other checks...
    • Casters - keep track of casting time
    • Email me written backstories, character descriptions, saving throws, passive perception and insight.
  • Divine Inspiration
    • At the end of every session, there will be a vote for the best creativity or role-playing in the session. The winner will get a point of Divine Inspiration which they will have to use before the end of the next session (or it is lost)
    • I (the DM) may award multiple at the end of a session if I feel that there were multiple events that deserve it.
    • This may be used on ANY D20 role, whether I (the DM) or on one of the players after the outcome of the initial role has been decided.
    • If one has advantage or disadvantage, both dice will be rerolled.
    • The player will decide which outcome happens
    • In the event of a tie when voting, all of the people that have tied will receive divine inspiration. However, if I (the DM) feel that this rule is abused, I (the DM) will break the tie.
  • World and Lore
    • Backstories - everyone will be part of the Adventurer's Guild (have your own choice as to why)
    • Any lore based questions?
  • Table Rules
    • Some +1 weapons may not be magical - rather, they will be "mastercrafted". As such, these weapons can be identified by anyone with at least martial proficiency in them.
    • Generally, ignore material components for spells unless the material has a gold value. If there is a gold value to the material cost of a spell, you will need to either:
      1. have that specific material in your inventory
      2. OR have the gold necessary to buy said material. Upon casting the spell, that price of the material will be deducted from your gold amount. In game, it will be described as you had already bought that item last time you were intown.

    • Using Revised Martial Equipment in terms of combat gear stats and abilities
    • Will be using the rules outlines in "Best Practice" - for ease of play, will be putting them here (with a couple of wording tweaks)
      • Flanking an enemy adds +2 to attack rolls for two creatures flanking an enemy, and +5 if three or more creatures flank an enemy.

      • Dual Wielding and Double Ended attacks count the off hand attack as part of your attack action, rather than using a Bonus Action for characters that have the feat Dual Wielder.

      • If you have the Grappler or Tavern Brawler feat and Martial training with unarmed attacks, you can make unarmed deflect, trip, and disarm attempts.

      • In this system, Martial training Unarmed Strikes deal d4 bludgeoning damage. To balance any race which grants natural weapons such as Tabaxi claws, Lizardfolk bite, or Dragonborn claws, they instead deal one size larger dice. A Tabaxi's claws would deal d6 slashing damage, for example.

      • When you score a critical hit, maximize your weapon's dice damage, then roll the bonus damage from a critical hit to prevent Critical Hits dealing less damage than normal. Do not maximize attachers such as Sneak Attack or Smite.

      • During a grapple, Heavy or Two Handed weapons attack with disadvantage, while Light, Unarmed Strikes, and Bite attacks gain Advantage. This also has an added benefit of making weapons with Versatile more versatile!

Session 1

Important Document: Astrakane Quest Scroll (In Fuyuki's possession)

  • Started off on the road to Astrakane, a village in the western edge of Lakeside Forest near Spathi
    • Fuyuki unnervingly felt like he was being watched for most of the session (with various intensities)
    • When the party arrived at the village, people were hiding in their homes and dogs were missing.
  • Talked to the Mayor and Sheriff, found out that 3 people and all of the village dogs had gone missing in the last week.
    • Atresk, the Sheriff, joined the party for the duration of the investigation.
    • Talked to the Priest and the villagers. The party concluded that a beast was behind the disappearances
    • Fuyuki got a book regarding Uesis from the Priest
  • Went into the forest at dusk. After wandering for an hour, they were attacked by the largest wolf (about 8 feet tall on hind legs) any of them (including Atresk) had ever seen.
    • Varjo took some damage, and Atresk was nearly killed, but they brought down the massive wolf and three of the normal wolves. Atresk smashed the massive wolf's skull after taking a severe bit to the abdomen. The rest of the wolves fled upon the death of the massive wolf.
    • Fuyuki started tanning half of the hide and turned half of the meat into jerky.
  • After taking a long rest, the party searched the surrounding area, and found the wolf den, where they found three humanoid bodies.
    • After searching the den, they found conclusive evidence linking two of the bodies to missing people, and assumed the third body was the third missing person.
    • Went back to take the wolf head back to the village, but the massive wolf body had completely disappeared. The others normal sized wolf bodies were still there.
    • When returning to the village, the party saw a humanoid completely cloaked in black watching them. It ignored all attempts at communication, and left the scene before the party could reach it. Fuyuki's sense of being watched completely disappeared after this.
  • Returned to the village hall and informed the Mayor of what had occurred.
    • The party was promptly paid and the Mayor informed them that the Dohkes had returned (they essentially are Adventurer's Guild celebrities) and that Fashum Dohke wanted to meet them.
    • Party leveled up (to level 3)
    • Fuyuki (Luke) earned Divine Inspiration for his creative (and unexpected) use of rope
Session 2
  • Talked to Fashum Dohke
    • Former celeberity-level adventurer turned shopkeeper and local hero
    • Informed him about the wolf in Astrakane and the shadowy figure seen near the village
    • Learned about another village in need, Midhauste, apparently dealing with a similar situation Astrakane was in
  • Travelled to Midhauste
    • Found the village in ruins, burnt and several villagers dead in the street
    • Met the survivors, found out that they had dealt with their own giant wolf
    • Lost some to the wolf, and more to the raiders in addition to the ones abducted by the raiders that hit the village.
  • Found the raider camp and attacked it
    • Found out that the raiders are kobolds
    • Cleared the camp except the middle structure, but no prisoners were found
    • The middle structure is just a stairwell, leading down beneath the camp
    • Went down the stairwell (and this be where the session ended)
    • Fuyuki (Luke) earned Divine Inspiration for being a badass in combat
Session 3

Important Document: Kobold Scroll

  • Explored the labyrinth underneath the camp
    • Triggered a number of traps, but found two points of interest with seemingly magic doors and unrecognizable writing above the doorways
    • The first room contained a number of prison cells with almost all of the kidnapped villagers. Only a small girl was missing
    • The second room was circular, with no purpose discerned by the party. The center of the room had a table with a slaughtered young girl on the top, with five kobolds surrounding it
    • Off of one of the bodies, the party grabbed a scroll seemingly written in the same language as above the doorways
    • Party leveled up (level 4)
    • Varjo (Aiden) earned Divine Inspiration for saving Fuyuki's life with a high damage magic missile
Session 4

  • Returned to Spathi
    • Varjo investigated some information relating to his backstory
    • Discovered the scroll and door markings were Draconic
    • Met a strange Lizardfolk who likes to wrestle every person he comes across
  • Heard about strange occurances in the small village of Barreshield
    • Started travelling to the village - about a day and a half trip walking
    • After about a day on the road, ambushed by an apparent crazed madman with a bow
    • Yanko (Charlie) earned Divine Inspiration for his hilarious roleplaying within Spathi
Session 5
  • Finished travelling to Barreshield
    • Reduced amount of travel (both ways) on the road
    • Noticed that people tended to stay away from each other
    • A number of Hobgoblin gaurds in the town, despite it not belonging to a specific Hobgoblin tribe
  • Heard a scream in an alleyway and investigated
    • Saw a man with a greataxe in a Tabaxi's chest
    • Attempted to communicate with the man
    • Instead, he attempted to kill the party
  • Varjo was knocked unconscious and Yanko died
    • After getting called upon by Fuyuki, a local Healer's Guild member healed Varjo and ressurected Yanko
    • Learned that Adventurer's Guild member gets a 90% discount on Healer's Guild fees
    • Afterwards, went out of town to rest, where the party learned that Varjo is a changeling
  • Talked to member of Detective's Guild
    • Learned some backgound information on the town
      • The former mayor died in a hunting accident a couple of months ago
      • This crisis is the first real crisis of the current mayor
      • As such, the mayor wants it cleared up quickly
    • Went to go speak to Dulmir Urm, a local political opponent of the mayor
    • Varjo earned Divine Inspiration for a reason I have forgotten
Session 6
  • Went to a rally of Dulmir Urm
    • Discovered that the politician doesn't really know anything related to the investigation
    • Investigator realized that all of the occurrances have been occurring near the outskirts of the city, where the Tabaxi spend the most amount of their time
  • Protest against the mayor occurred, drawing the attention of the party
    • Varjo realized that the protest could be a distraction to allow something else to happen in the city
    • Went towards the outskirts, nearby where they came across the greataxe weilding madman
    • Fuyuki saw a figure moving in the alleyways
  • The party attempted to follow the figure
    • Fuyuki magically put to sleep. Was woken up by Varjo stabbing him in the hand
    • Lost the figure in the dark alleyways (just past sunset)
    • Was on their way back to the investigator when they were ambushed by a Tabaxi
      • It was a great place for an ambush - nothing in the alleyway to provide cover and no windows/doors to provide a quick escape
    • Both Varjo and Fuyuki nearly died attempting to escape
    • A benevolent bystander intervened (literally jumped from the rooftop) and knocked the Tabaxi unconscious
    • Party leveled up (level 5)
    • Yanko earned Divine Inspiration for saving the party from the mysterious Tabaxi
Session 7
  • Found out the mysterious stranger was Yanko
    • Got some help from guards and brought the Tabaxi and Fuyuki to the Healer's Guild
    • Slightly healed Fuyuki and learned the Tabaxi is the leader of the local Tabaxi clan
    • Slept on Nozeful's boat
  • Interrogated the Tabaxi
    • Learned that he was working for a woman
    • Got assassinated (bow) by this woman who was wearing entirely black
    • The figure ran, and the party spent several hours (and the guards even longer) attempting to find her, but could not
  • Went to the Tabaxi dens
    • Searched Game's den, found a drawer and a half full of papers (work related)
    • Brought them to the mayor
    • Continued their search to no avail
  • Talked to Nozeful
    • Learned that there appears to be no evidence left beyind by the cloaked figure beyond what the party found
    • Went to the nearby inn (The Inne) for a restful sleep
Session 8
  • Continued investigation into the Tabaxi clan leader
    • Started hearing conflicting reports between witnesses
    • Made no headway in the investigation and abandoned it
    • Was paid by the mayor for catching the leader; it is highly suspected that he was behind the homicidal madness
  • Attempted to leave Barreshield
    • Fuyuli attempted to see his hide again - was not able to
    • Varjo stole 42.2 gold from the merchant
    • Party was taken into custody and found not guilty - NOTE: that is not the same as innocent
  • Finally left Barreshield
    • Met Fashum Dohke's wife, JodovĂ© and bought some equipment from her
    • Varjo earned Divine Inspiration for his thievery shenanigans
Session 9
  • Returned to Spathi and talked to Fashum Dohke
    • Learned that the figure wearing black has been seen in other places
    • Sometime within a day or two of a sighting, some tragedy occurs
    • Fuyuki got his hawk back with a message asking him to return to the temple on Roovnisi
    • Yanko attempted to wrestle Fashum and got his ass kicked - didn't even touch him
  • Started the trek to Roovnisi
    • Got about 2 days into walking (right at the intersection of the Spathan Great Road and the Southern Coastal Road)
    • Spend a night in Astrakane
    • Fuyuki gave the village priest a toy soldier that was missing its head
    • Heard about possible sea raiders attacking travellers on the road
Session 10
  • Continued the adveture to Roovnisi
    • Woke to find that the lizard boi, Yanko, had disappeared with all of his stuff
    • Came across another traveller heading in a similiar direction
  • Heard people talking near the beach, ambushed them and interrogated the survivors
    • Killed 2 in the fight, wounded another 2
    • Learned that they are sea raiders, not pirates
    • Noticed that their sea raider friends were coming (saw the boat from the shore)
    • Cut off the hands of the captured raiders and ran for it after sinking two rowboats
  • Arrived in Derets
    • Fuyuki restocked up on incense
    • Varjo saw a ghost-like dwarf who suggested that he go to the abandoned Derets mine a couple mines east of the port town
  • Went to the mine
    • Ibrov intentially triggered a known trap to get the gemstones it was protecting
    • Fought some undead defending a body
    • Beween the traps and the fight, nearly knocked the entire party unconscious, but somehow Fuyuki was able to get the skeleton out of the mine
    • Gave the body a proper burial, and returned to the town to sleep for the night
    • Party leveled up (to level 6)
    • Fuyuki earend Divine Inspiration for his anatomically correct descriptions of his attacks
Session 11
  • Continued the adveture to Roovnisi
    • Found passage across the straight from Derets to Colofort
    • To the surprise of everyone, they reunited with the Lizard boi, Yanko, at the Colofort port
    • Yanko and Ibrov first met. As per usual, Yanko attempted to wrastle Ibrov, but failed
    • Caught up on what had transpired between the two groups, then continued the trek to the Roovnisi Forest
  • Passed by the Lonely Mountain
    • Yanko veered off the course and started heading up the mountain after hearing a distressing sound
    • Varjo "saw" a path and started charging farther up the mountain
    • Discovered a party of frozen humanoids, and was ambushed by Winter/White Wolves
    • After taking a beating, the party won, made cairns for the bodies and skinned some of the wolves
    • Finally, Fuyuki took the opportunity to wrastle Yanko and won. This caused a chuckle amongst the gods who bestowed Divine Inspirate upon him
Session 12/13
  • Continued the adventure to the Jitaku
    • Left the Lonely Mountain, but without Varjo and continued travelling to the Jitaku
    • The party was quickly found by Varjo, who was following their trail
    • Varjo was being chased by a t-rex
    • Killed the t-rex, with a lot of party blood spilled
  • Made it to the Jitaku Temple
  • The entire complex is called "the Temple" - its a Lothlorien-like structure built along the trees of the Southern Forest
  • Talked to the leaders of the Jitaku and learned that the Initiates are being hunted - with Fiyuki likely being the only survivor
  • Party leveled up (to 7)
  • Fuyuki won Divine Inspiration
